I am going to be in another upcoming show! This piece is for the Sk8 or Die V show at Young Blood Gallery in Atlanta and it opens on May 7th.
With this piece I wanted to continue working with and expand on the ideas that i used on the previous WULF piece. I used painted wooden shapes that when layered produce the detail of the piece but also just show the essential elements of the design. At the same time I was working with a skateboard and that had to be the focus of the design.
That all added up to a wolf wearing a horned helmet!
This was a fun piece to make and I really like how the contours of the skateboard worked in the helmet design. It can be really frustrating sometimes when stuck in a rut. These last two pieces that I have made have been a challenge to myself to try new things and go into unfamiliar territory.
The show will have 100 skateboards and is always really fun so come out if you can!
See more photos here: BATTLE WULF!

I am working my way through some new techniques and thought putting myself in a show would be a great way to force myself to try out some new ideas.
I usually make things very quickly and I don’t let myself sit with ideas very long because I get frustrated and become unhappy with the results of my first try at things. With this, I just kept working at it letting it be what it was and not worrying about things as much. I have very high standards with my screenprinted pieces and usually do not let mistakes pass so I definitely have more to learn about hand painting and getting solid clean lines. In the end I think it is a good first step in a new direction. It was a fun piece to make with a goofy vibe that is less “serious” looking than my usual work and it works with the theme of the show.
Spirit Animal opens March 12th at MINT GALLERY here in Atlanta.
One Hundred For Haiti has a goal to raise $100,000 for direct action humanitarian aid for the people of Haiti and I am proud to be helping them out.
From the 100 For Haiti site
“The greatest humanitarian catastrophe in the western hemisphere took place almost a year ago, and the people of Haiti are still struggling to survive. The earthquake of January 12th left hundreds of thousands dead, homeless, without access to clean water, and without medical care. This coming January, activists and artists from around the world are working together to put on simultaneous events on and around January 12th, to raise money for two Haitian relief organizations. Learn more about what you can do to help. Let’s support the Haitian people as they use their ingenuity and passion to transform their nation.”
I am sending this piece to be auctioned off at one of the shows.

Also a percentage of my online sales will be going to them.

With the holladaze coming up some people might be thinking about spending some of that hard to come by cash. If you are one of those people please consider spending it at one of the many small local businesses in your city.
Here in Atlanta we have a ton of great options to pick from. In many cases the money that these small businesses make during the holladaze will sustain them through the leaner times in the rest of the year. Here are just a few of my picksbut this list could be so much longer. I picked these places not only because of what they sell but because they are all super nice people.
EDIT: I didn’t include restaurants on this list, that is for another post but Atlanta has tons of great local spots for food.
If you own a local spot and feel snubbed by my list it wasn’t intentional. The idea here is that I make a short list and other people add on a few and pass it on.
