This is the print that I did for the southern printmakers show at Young Blood Gallery here in Atlanta. It was a bit of a challenge for me because the gallery asked that it be on paper and I don’t usually print on paper. I really like the way my textures work with wood and was afraid that it wouldn’t work. I experimented with a few new techniques and in the end I think it worked out. Im happy with the background textures and I think the color really works with this image. Go see the show! It runs until the end of the month and there are a bunch of affordable prints for sale by some great artists.

This Saturday come out for our studio open house/sale! I will be doing some live screen printing demos and Jeanette will be doing a pottery throwing demo. You get a chance to see how and where we make our work! We will both have a bunch of new work for sale. Infotainment! Food! Folks! Fun!

IN THE NAME OF PROGRESSION

I have a bunch of new things in the works and I am gearing up for a few events in the Fall/Winter.

I will be doing the Indie Craft Experience again this year. November 19th and 20th. This is always a good event so mark your calendars!

Jeanette Zeis Ceramics and I are planning another studio open house this year. More details on that soon.

I have always like the idea of Watchers. People or animals that are here just to observe what is going on and keep records. Norse mythology tells the story of ravens flying around the world and bringing daily reports to Odin. Studies also show that these birds will remember faces and take out revenge on people that they feel have crossed them. I started making these as part of a public art project here in Atlanta to keep an eye on the city. I thought that I would let them fly to farther off places.

Punk Rock Positive Affirmations!

Growing up in the punk/hardcore scene left a huge impact on me and really helped shape my view of the world. It taught me to root for the underdog. It taught me that life should be about creativity and choosing your own path. It also taught me that being angry is ok and can be used as a tool to bring about positive change. After years of singing along with bands and reading lyric sheets ,the words to many of my favorite songs have become part of my DNA. Listening to a guy scream at the top of his lungs over blasting guitars “Rise Above, we’re gonna Rise Above” really can make an impact. These pieces are taken from some of my favorite songs and are daily reminders of where I have been and to keep moving forward for a better tomorrow.

Last weekend I was in the Artlantis art festival here in Atlanta. After forgetting to bring some change,breaking a couple of pieces in transit and sweating off about 5 pounds it turned out to be a great day. I’m always nervous when I do these kinds of things because you never know how they will turn out. I had a bunch of friends come by my booth,met a couple of artists whose work I really admire and sold a bunch of art. I also had a bunch of folks come by my booth and talk about Free Art Friday .

So thanks to everyone that stopped by my booth and thanks for supporting independent artists.I would also like to send a big thanks to the fine folks at BEEP BEEP GALLERY for putting on a great festival with great art and great music that is very affordable for the artist to participate in.

The next chance to see me sitting behind a table filled with my stuff will not be until Holiday ICE but if you would like to stop by my shop just send me an e mail to set up a visit.

ARTLANTIS

I will be doing the ARTLANTIS festival June 4th here in Atlanta. I will have some newish things and some new things. Above is the new packaging for my paper cuts. I have always hated the frames that I put them in and I am going to start using these boxes. Each box and lid is hand painted and comes with the paper band are are ready to hang. I will also have a few new wood pieces as well as some older things that I have around the shop.

50 artists are in the festival and a bunch of local bands will also be playing. Come out and say hello! Bring me vegan snacks! Check out the Artlantis website for more details, it should be a good time.
